their marketing mix, and overcoming their misgivings proved to be an uphill struggle. they eventually agreed to the proposal, but only on the proviso that i guaranteed the campaign would meet their ambitious targets for increased branch footfall and new product uptake. fingers firmly crossed, i assured them that it would. i initially presented their board with twelve very different scripts but convinced them to choose the one i believed to be the most persuasive: a short tale contrasting the growing impersonality of high street banks with the altogether friendlier face of a traditional building society. by the time i received final script approval there were only two weeks left until the first air date: fourteen days to shoot location footage, design and computer animate a pair of robots, record background music and vo, and edit the whole lot together. all on a shoestring. with the help of wordley productions, i managed to bring the job in on time and under budget. as for the exclusive french legwear – commissioned me to design the company's look from the ground up: everything from stationery and carrier bags to website and press ads. to her credit, my client decided from the outset against using a fashionable 'size zero' model: she wanted someone of more womanly proportions to promote her sophisticated product range. however, as we were to discover, leg models of that type are (excuse the pun) thin on the ground. fortunately, at the eleventh hour, following numerous casting sessions, we found our legs. just in time for the launch of a highly successful campaign in in rural somerset with most businesses already having an online presence, much of my web-based work involves re-designing sites either to overhaul their look or to make them more accessible to the ever-growing list of devices on which they can be viewed. this, however, was a start-from-scratch job. my client wanted a brand-new website for his soon-to-be-available luxury lodges – and he wanted it pronto. with none of my preferred photographers available at such short notice, i grabbed my trusty nikon and spent the next three days shooting everything from kitchens and four-poster beds to boating couples and the occasional passing kingfisher. a day of retouching followed – the still-to-be-decorated lodge exteriors had to be 'painted' green – after which i was ready to begin coding. the resulting picture of rural tranquility belied the frenetic week of behind-the-scenes work that went into getting the site online, ready to take those all-important, start-of-season bookings. client: to produce a press campaign aimed at persuading sme purchasing managers to let ibm guide them through the increasingly confusing world of business technology. i needed a proxy for the bewildered business person; someone lost in the labyrinthine land of computers. so who better than lewis carroll's alice? i slightly modified sir john teniel's famous illustrations to incorporate some anachronistic tech and added a touch of psychedelia to produce an eye-catching teaser campaign that proved enormously successful – the number of requests for consultations exceeded the client's expectations by more than double. client: ibm category: press campaign creative input: concept, copywriting, design & artwork close signs & portents enlivening a brand with some sophisticated quirkiness bluemay, a leading hi-tech plastic mouldings manufacturer, had been a client for more than ten years when they commissioned me to produce a range of promotional mailings to send out to prospective customers. the brief was to devise a theme that would be both memorable and unlike anything produced by their competitors. the key, it transpired, was in the company's location – an area
